Hide & Seek

Hide & Seek

I was never intending to see this film. I was probably going to wait for the video. But one afternoon after college, I swung by the movies to treat myself. There was nothing really showing at the time so I thought I would see this and kill the couple of hours I had.

As I watched, it was quite an intense picture. The acting was excellent from DeNiro and young Dakota Fanning. She has the skills to look really scared which will have every director in Hollywood after her because if there is any psychological film with a child in it, they are always creepy, possessed, know something we don't, see what we cant and are generally wierd. Such is the pattern of movies these days following the success of The Sixth Sense. The little boy in The Ring was creepy, and it has even been spoofed in Scary Movie 3.

Anyway, back to the film. DeNiro seems to have turned his current career into that of an ageing actor who has just gotten into it. Do you know what I mean? He is considered one of the best actors in the world and showed his stuff in movies like The Godfather 2, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and many other classics. These days his resume reads like Meet the Fockers and Analyze That. Has he sold out, or has he just reinvented himself so he will star in the films that are seen by today’s young audience? All I know is that Pacino and DeNiro could have done maybe a couple of each others roles, but you wouldn't see Pacino in Showtime or Meet the Parents.

Look I've trailed off again. Hide and Seek is pretty much what you would suspect. It's a suspenseful, intriguing mystery with the standard twist at the end which is based on an idea that has been used in a few thrillers lately (clue - Secret Window). Hope that doesn't ruin it for you.

That's all I can say really.
